Their 50 First Dates

Sunday morning… I left the house for a while to have my nails polished.  After an hour, I went back.  I was shouting for more than 15 minutes again, looking for my Lolo and Lola, who I left in the house.  My brother was not there, too… the car wasn't on the garage.  I got nervous.  I really got scared.  I don't wanna call somebody… I just stayed there for a couple of minutes more.

Then I heard the voice of my Lola from a far… I hurriedly went out of the gate to see them… I saw them slowly walking, with my Lola's arm locked into my Lolo's.  My Lolo was holding his black tungkod on the right side.  My Lolo couldn't walked as fast as he could… he's 83 now.. my Lola is 76.

This was our conversation:

Sheggz:  "Ina… san kayo galing?  Kanina pa ako tumatawag walang tao sa atin?"
                  (Ina Minting looked at my Lolo… and said….)
Ina:          "Nagdate kami sa plaza."
                  (I laughed…)
Sheggz:   "Totoo po?"
Ama:       "Sinundo kasi ako sa barbero, inihatid lang ako ni Ovel kaya nagpasundo ako.  Hindi na  
kasi ako makakalakad mag-isa.  Kanina pa kami naglalakad kaya namasyal na lang kami"

(Our neighbor, went out… when they saw the oldies… one van stopped.. our Titos and Titas from Manila.. they saw us crossing the streets…)

Neighbor:  "Bakit mo pa sinundo, Shereen… nagdadate pala..:

Sheggz:     "Nag-alala ako na baka masundan pa si Tito Alvin… Dios ko.. ako pa mag-aalaga ng baby…. Tito ko… baby pa.. hehehe"

(We all laughed…)

The two continued walking… I stepped forward to take pictures of them…

Sheggz:   "Ina, picture-an ko kayo ni Ama…"

Ina:           "Dali, Turing… ngiti at pipicturean tayo…."

The two posed immediately and smiled… I went inside the house and played one song that I lovingly dedicate to my grandparents…

They are more than 55 years married…  But look at them… it's as if they have just gotten married a few yesterdays ago. I wish we all find the same match that could really fulfill their promise of a long lasting love.
If the world would ask me one memorable love story that I could ever tell… theirs was close to perfect..

Pahug nga ….. I wouldn't be as the kind of person as appreciative about loving people as I am today, if you weren't my foremost reasons for that…. my memories will always turn back to you…. thanks for loving each other… for without you… we won't be here…  Thanks for one legacy of love that I will always look forward to.
