Encounters with the Preggy

Why do pregnant women have some sort of cravings?

Been asking myself due to Matto's never-ending texts of… "Bilhan mo naman ako ng Selecta Moo, Anchovy's Pizza of Yellow Cab or Estrell's Caramel Cake.. Now Na." from out of the blue. Even texted my friend Jacquikay for "KFC Chicken"… and not to mention the super-moodswings.

I was telling her… kelangan talaga may "Now Na!"

"I wish 9 months na yang tyan mo para pwede na kitang matadyakan.  Nawiwindang na ako sa mga cravings mo?!".

So I browsed the net for some answers… and here's what I've got.

"Cravings are something that are commonly associated with pregnancy. The old standard being pickles and ice cream. The truth is that as many as 68% of all pregnant women will experience cravings, usually due to hormonal changes.

Throughout pregnancy, as the different hormones fluctuate, women may find that they are sensitive to the smells of certain foods, actually to the point of nausea in some cases. Others may find that their once favorite food is no longer tolerated, or that a food that was always a least favorite is now top on the list.

In general cravings like these are not harmful, and as long as one is eating a balanced diet, and staying moderate in the addition of calories to their diet, it should not be a problem. (The average pregnant woman, with one baby, needs to add about 300 extra calories a day to her diet.)"

You're excused for the meantime, Matto-te… Wait till that puppy comes out at talagang… tadyakan na to! Hehehe
